July 27, 2023 | This solo performance ritual, “Come As You Are: Musical Space-Making,” featured New Orleans-based flutist and singer-songwriter kei slaughter, who presented an interactive set of improvised compositions exploring queer Black lifeworlds, ancestral memory, and beyond. A reverently rebellious child of the Black Church, kei brings the gospel of freedom frequencies to listeners becoming participants in their own radical authenticity. This performance was dedicated to the late Diane Moser, an incredible jazz pianist/composer and a cherished member of the VCFA community.
